DRUNKWORKS

Emma and Nick, 2023

This curatorial project investigates new dimensions of drunkenness and the opportunity to see through a gaze other than the sober. It celebrates the fleeting and looks to remember not only times of inebriation, but moreso alternative ways of seeing. It focuses on guests and hosts of parties, events and moments in time to carry forward and make the case for, a prolonged state of being drunk.

This is an ongoing personal project, which started with the project ‘Decadence, Now.’ by City of Art in 2023.

Time seems to stand still as we cross the veil into a state of being drunk or, rather, a drunk state of being. This celebration of sensation is itself a zeitgeist. The opportunity to indulge in our inner psyche offers potential worlds we want to navigate away from our own. The gratification lies in the various moving images of our own selves: absinthe drinkers looking over the edge, suspended in and speculating on our now.

We stand, always, on a threshold.
