Andrew borg wirth (b.1993) looks to the curatorial as a method Through which he interrogates disciplines of architecture, contemporary art, theatre and design.
Andrew’s work creates collaborative situations within an interdisciplinary practice producing site-specific projects in Malta and overseas. He has developed relationships with artists and collectives; architecture, fashion and design studios; and public and academic institutions across a variety of projects. He has curated exhibitions at Somerset House, Valletta Contemporary, the Malta Society of Arts and Spazju Kreattiv (Malta’s Centre for Creativity) amongst other. He is a founding member of City of Art and works with organisations including the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation and Frank Portelli Archives.
Since 2023, Andrew has consulted as Creative Director within the office of the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture in Malta, developing the vision and strategy for a new, 6,000 sqm cultural centre in Floriana, Malta.
Andrew is a Visiting Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty for the Built Environment at the University of Malta and has presented research at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL). He graduated in 2017 with an M (Arch.) Architectural Design from the University of Malta in, and in 2021 concluded an MA in Culture, Criticism and Curation from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. His research interests lie at the intersection between cultural and architectural discourse, dealing with nostalgia, public space, memory, monuments and trauma.
Andrew is Head of the Advisory Board at Valletta Contemporary, sits on the Visual Arts Sub-Committee of MEIA, the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association, and is a full member of IKT, the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art.
Andrew received the Best Curatorial Practice Award from ARTZ ID (Malta) in 2022 and the Galizia Award for Best Student Dissertation by Kamra tal-Periti (Maltese Chamber of Architects) in 2018. ‘Decadence, Now.’ by City of Art received the award for Multidisciplinary Production of the Year at the 2023 Premju Għall-Arti.
Andrew was the curator of URNA, the Malta Pavilion at the London Design Biennale in 2025, commissioned by Arts Council Malta and winner of the Best Overall Contribution award. In 2026, he was one of 43 laureates of a residency at the Cité internationale des arts in collaboration with the Institut français.
